HIS Dance Academy was founded by Leslie Glendening and Beth Huegli in 2002 in Grand Rapids Michigan. Our mission to develop Christian character through excellence in dance instruction while reaching the community for Christ can be experienced at the heart of each class regardless of age or level.
Students in the Pre-professional division (ages 8+) receive Vaganova based ballet training and modern technique classes in a positive and safe environment. Additionally, these students may choose to participate in outreach opportunities including an original ballet which is performed each March.
The Recreational Division is for dancers ages 3 months + with caregiver, 3 thru adult who want to enjoy dance without the commitment of the Pre-professional division. Ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and modern classes meet once a week and are taught by enthusiastic instructors who share their love of dance with their students. With the help of our studio mascot Hissy the Honeybee, preschool students learn ballet positions and Bible verses. Sweet little Hissy takes them along as she goes on adventures in her neighborhood and at dance class.
To help reinforce the mission of HIS Dance Academy, each dance position has been assigned a Bible verse. Regardless of level, these are recited weekly in ballet class as they move through the positions, so that God’s Word is written on their hearts (Jer. 31;34b).
Delighted they dance all day long...they can't keep it quiet! Psalm 89:16 Msg
HIS Dance Academy operates on a 9 month season, September - May. Summer Classes are offered June-August. We typically begin registration in March for Summer Classes and June 1 for Fall Classes.
A Vaganova based curriculum is used in all Ballet classes. In addition, Bible verses and applications relating to all terms and positions are taught throughout the year. HIS Dance is a great place for your child to experience a new recreational sport or a professional dance education!
Our Recreational Division is for dancers ages 3 years thru adult. At the age of 8 years old students and families may choose to continue in our Recreational Division which is based on age/grade or move into our Graded Technique Division Apprentice 1. Students progress through the levels at their own pace, sometimes remaining in a level for 2-3 years. Pointe begins at Junior 2 at teacher discretion.
2023 runs Sept 5,2022 - May 18, 2024
